Fall in Love with Steamboat Springs

There is so much to love about Colorado in the fall – the changing leaves, cooler temperatures, festive activities, and endless opportunities to get out and enjoy the beauty of the mountains. We wanted to share with you some of our favorite ways to enjoy fall in the area!

Take in the scenery

Whether you prefer to walk, ride, drive, or fly, you don’t want to miss the beauty of the changing seasons in Steamboat Springs. Get above it all for a birds-eye view in a helicopter, or toast with champagne as you float peacefully along in a hot air balloon. If a leisurely drive through the trees is more your speed, take a drive through Buffalo Pass Road or wind your way through the Flattops Scenic Byway. There is no shortage of wildlife, beautiful scenery, and spots to get out and stretch your legs! Looking to breathe in the fresh air and move your body? Take on some of the best trails in the area on foot, bike, or horseback to really experience the beauty for yourself.

Stroll down Lincoln Avenue

There is no shortage of great shopping and dining in Steamboat Springs, and many of them are centered around Lincoln Avenue in downtown Steamboat. Bookshops, art galleries, craft stores, and more are spread throughout downtown and ensure that there is something to enjoy for everyone. Restaurant Week happens in the fall and is a culinary celebration that we look forward to every year! Steamboat boasts over 130 restaurants, bars, breweries, and cafes that cover cuisine from all over. One of our favorite fall events that happens along Lincoln Avenue is the Downtown Halloween Stroll, where businesses open their doors for trick or treaters of all ages!

Immerse yourself in art & history

Steamboat Springs is full of art and history, with many art galleries and museums like the Tread of Pioneers Museum. The museum contains exhibits that tell the history of the town, its local natives, skiing, Western heritage, and so much more! Beyond the interactive exhibits and local history research center, the museum hosts regular events and activities for all ages! November is the annual Festival of Trees, a pre-holiday tradition that brings a forest of sparkling holiday trees to the museum for families. It’s a fundraising event for the museum in order to continue museum preservation and educational activities. If you enjoy art in any form, from movies to music to theater, there are endless possibilities of ways to enjoy it in Steamboat. Fall is host to the Literary Sojourn, a literary festival that celebrates the power of the book with award-winning writers and readers coming together to share stories and the magic of books. Each month, Steamboat Springs hosts the First Friday Artwalk to fuse art with culture, food, and wine. There is never a shortage of live music or theater performances either, so always be on the lookout for those opportunities!

Warm up in the hot springs

Of course, what would fall in Steamboat Springs be without a dip in the springs themselves? The springs are wonderful year-round, but something about the fall colors, cool air, and hot springs make the experience even better. Old Town Hot Springs is great for the family as it includes waterslides, a kiddie pool, and a rock-climbing wall for the kids. But if you prefer time without the kids, there is an adults-only spring there just for you. For a more rustic, natural adventure, make your reservations at the Strawberry Park Hot Springs just outside of town. Hidden in an aspen grove, these springs boast several pools that are fed by natural spring water and Hot Spring Creek.
