Technology in the Kitchen

From smart appliances to full-blown lighting systems, cooking can be a luxurious experience in the comfort of your own home. As technology advances, more and more options are becoming available to the average consumer.

Automation Integration

It wouldn’t be a Cloud 9 blog without the mention of automation integration. An automated lighting system has the ability to set scenes, which can change the mood from a regular everyday breakfast to a dinner party on a Saturday night. Start warming the oven before you even make it home, or check that everything is off after you’ve left the house for peace of mind. Kitchen dance parties are always a possibility with speakers that can play music throughout your home. Automation technology has the ability to make all the things that matter as simple as one touch.

Smart Appliances

Smart appliances are advancing in leaps and bounds. From dishwashers that will send an alert to your phone when the detergent needs to be ordered to refrigerators with cameras that allow you to see what you need from the aisle of the grocery store, these appliances are changing the face of private kitchens everywhere. Cameras, sensors, apps, and artificial intelligence have become integral parts of the cooking process for many.

As sales and demand have increased for home appliances, the demand for technology has increased as well. Companies like Bosch have rolled out an appliance that uses sensors that can perform tasks like perfectly searing a steak or reheating leftovers. Revolution Cooking created a touch-screen toaster to flash-toast bread for an even toast that retains moisture. Kohler has created touchless faucets to reduce the spread of germs, even integrating voice-technology that allows users to dictate just how much water is needed. Currently, Samsung seems to be taking the lead on smart appliances, however. Their range includes things like the FamilyHub refrigerator that contains cameras inside and a screen on the door that can host things like your family calendar, notes back and forth between family members, and the ability to stream TV shows or music.

The Future of Kitchen Technology

While fully-automated kitchens (think robot arms and completely human-free) are still fairly far-off, exciting new technologies are being developed all the time. What does the future hold? Things like induction cooktops that forgo specific burners and can turn an entire surface into potential cooking space. There is even a prototype of a fully automated kitchen assistant created by Motely that has arms and hands to pour, stir, and more at the stove. Users only had to tell it what they wanted it to cook through an app on their phone.

We’re so excited to see what the future holds for home automation, and we’re excited to be part of it at Cloud 9! If you’re ready to start your automation journey, contact us today. We’d love to help!
